Autism Awareness

To celebrate Autism Awareness Week and to raise awareness of autism, Le Cateau Primary School invited YouTube blogger IndieAndy ( Andy Burns) in to work with some of our children who are on the autistic spectrum. Andy has autism and his channel is focused on raising autism awareness & acceptance. He wants to try and change attitudes towards autism and to educate people about it. Andy makes video’s on autism from his perspective as an autistic adult. He shares his autism experiences to help other autistic people and families to improve their understanding. 

Andy came into school to make a video which featured a group of six pupils talking about their feelings and experiences of autism. The children involved all spoke about how proud they are of their own autism and were inspired by watching Andy's video's.  

Andy travelled from Spennymoor in county Durham to come into school and give his time and YouTube expertise to the children. As well as recording with the children, he did a question and answer session and a walk round of the school to offer his advice on how we can improve our classrooms to help those children diagnosed. 

All the children really enjoyed making the video and it made them feel very proud to be autistic.
